Ye Are the Salt of the Earth
Mat 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
We are the salt of the earth. When Jesus used this figurative language, he understood those who knew the importance of salt in society would grasp a deeper meaning of our position in this world as a Christian that makes a difference.
1. Salt Preserves: We need to preserve morals, virtues, family
structure, etc…
2. Salt Penetrates: We need to be effective in this world. We need to get
into the cracks and crevices of this world and give them a taste of Jesus.
3. Salt must remain Productive: (if the salt have lost his savor,
wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing,)
It is easy to Preserve or to keep our morals and virtues in life. It is easy to demonstrate them to our neighbor. What is hard is to penetrate, because that takes effort. Unless we do penetrate we are not really being productive.
In order to be productive, God must prepare us for use.
I. We must be Sifted: God needs to work on us, teach us. Salt in rock
form can be used in a limited way, not until it is crushed can salt fully
dissolve, penetrate, and be productive.
II. We must be Scattered: There is a place for you in the body of
Christ. Jesus will evenly spread His family.
Where can God use you? In what manner will He use you.
If we pour a lump of salt in one place it will burn. If we scatter the salt out,
it will dissolve and penetrate..
III. We must Season. I've never heard, "That is the best salt I
have ever tasted." I have heard, "That is to much salt," or
"There is not enough salt."
What we strive for is the right amount. This comes from being sifted and
scattered.
Are you the salt of the earth? Has God Sifted you and Scattered you to be a Seasoning to this lost and dying world?
