Jeremiah 8:22  There is a Balm and There is a Physician

God’s answer to this question is “YES!”

There is a balm: A medicine, with healing properties, a remedy, and a soothing agent.  Symbolic of God’s Word

There is a physician: One who administers the medicine, the balm.  Jesus Christ, the great physician.

If a physician prescribes a medicine, is it not supposed to meet the need of the one requiring healing?
The physician surely knows what is best.
Doctors take the Hippocratic oath upon graduation promising to give their patients the best care they can give.
The prescription may hurt at times, but overall will benefit the one in need of a cure.

Jesus sees the need and has the cure:
1. Sin sick soul: Romans 3:10 and 23 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.” “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”

Greeks have sinned, Jews have sinned.  John says that if we say we have no sin, we

a. Deceive Ourselves–1 John 1:8

b. Make God a liar–1 John 1:10

c. The truth is not in us–1 John 1:8

d. God’s word is not in us–1 John 1:10

Consequences of sin, the wages of sin is death.  Military term of death for doing wrong.
Sin is an ugly sore that will fester and fester until it is washed away.

The Word gives us freedom from sin.

Romans 6:17-18 “But thanks be to God, that whereas ye were servants of sin, ye became obedient from the heart to that from of teaching whereunto ye were delivered; and being made free from sin ye became servants of righteousness.”

Romans 8:2 “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.”

2. Sorrowful heart.  No need for anti-depressents, no need for worry.  Problem is our day and age.

Rev 3:17  Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

Rev 3:18  I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

Rev 3:19  As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

Rev 3:20  Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

3. Surrendered life:  When things are not going the way we planned.

1 Peter 1-4; 12-13;

There is a balm, we need to apply the balm, by faith for salvation, by freedom for sorrow and by fact for surrender.
