Psalm 84:1-12 God's
Involvement in Our Life
What God does for us can be summed
up in two words that are used most frequently in sermons and in songs:
Grace and Mercy.
All that God actually does for us will never be known or fully understood until we stand before His throne in Heaven. We can only touch the hem of the garment, we can only look at the train of His glory, we can only truly say, “The half has never been told.”
Psalm 84 shows
three areas of our life of how God is involved.
Again, these do not scratch the
surface, but are fundamental needs to our Christian walk with God.
I. (v.1-4) God Teaches Us Through His
Church.
He doesn’t hang us out on a limb,
it isn’t His desire to leave us ignorant concerning the things of God.
He teaches us through His church.
We know that it is through the Word of God that we learn, but it is the church where He has ordained the Word to have a great impact.
(Eph. 5:25-27)
v.1) Cherished: It is a pleasant,
pleasing, lovely place.
v.2) Consumed: It is the beginning and the ending of our life with Christ.
Controlled: It is an intimate
place, the heart, and an emotional
place, the flesh.
v.3) Continue: It is a place to call home.
Cultivate: a place to be born again at.
v.4) Cheerful: Blessed are They.
(Hebrewd 10:25)
II. (v.5-8) God
Tests Us Through Adverse Conditions.
v.5) It is not our strength through
trials.
We must learn this.
In order to make it through the rest of life, with it’s troubles and
trials. (2 Cor,12:9)
Our hear must not faint, it must depend on God.
v.6) Baca means “weeping”.
Tears are most impressive to God.
Moderation, (Phil. 4:4) the pools are even, smooth, refreshing even.
v.7) It is trial after trial, heartache after heartache.
This is the “narrow” life.
v.8) Prayer is the key element in our life through trials.
Who do we run to?
Where do we find strength?
It may not change God, but it changes me!
When you won’t calm the storm,
calm me!
III. (v.9-12)
God Treats Us With Tremendous Care.
v.9) His protection.
If we only knew?
v.10) It is not our social standing, our worldly achievements, or even our role
in the church that draws His attention to us.
v. 11) Our walk with the Lord is provisional.
We must not turn the grace of God into lasciviousness.
v.12) Here is the ultimate promise.
