I Kings 3:16-28

A Mothers Love

Solomon had a unique childhood.  Parents with a past.  Yet he still said, “Pro 4:3  For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.”

It is a display of God’s grace.  A display of God’s guidance.

Solomon’s wealth was used for God’s glory:  What God can not accomplish through our lives, He may want to accomplish through our children.

Solomon’s wisdom was used for God’s glory.  He was used of God to leave us much Scripture for Godly living. (Pro., Song, Eccles.)

In his display of wisdom asked for in the previous chapter, Solomon gave us a shining example, not only of wisdom, but also of  “A Mother’s Love.”  And greater still, a parallel of our savior’s love for us.

I.   She wanted her child back in her arms.
Kidnapped children (snowball), war victims, world.

Jesus wants His children back in His arms.
When he sees them in the clutches of one who could care less, but who is only out for their self.
Blinded by Satan, Beguiled by his worldly pleasures, used and abused.

Lost sheep, lost coin, lost son,

II.    Concerned about the life of her child.
Hagar and Ishmael, Moses and his mother
(give the child suck)
She brought him to the judge who would take control.

Oh, if we gave our children to God in these last days.
Restore the family alter.
Jesus is able, He is waiting, who is praying?

Mat 23:37  O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
Hen in a fire, chicks under the wing.

III.      She was willing to give up her desires for her child’s sake.
Proverbs 31:1-2
1. son – legal
2. womb – love
3. vows – life

The vows, the commitment, the desire, strong desire.
Go back to Pro. 30:11,
Who is perfect, who has not made mistakes,
Can we learn from our parents mistakes as well as their positive traits and be a better parent for our children?
I Kings 3:16 harlot.   Still, had a desire for her children.

There is one, who had no mistakes, and yet gave all of His life for us.  No greater love.
